Welcome to Castle Class - Croeso i dosbarth castell!
Welcome to Castles Class. We hope you have had a lovely summer the children have been eagerly sharing all their news. It is wonderful to see the children again and meet their new friends. The children have made a wonderful start this week all coming in so confident, happy and raring to go! Our Class webpage will be updated regularly with information and photos of the week so please do check it out. Our topic this half Castles and Dragons. This project has a history focus and teaches children about aspects of the middle ages of Welsh history between 1063 and 1283, a period that is generally known as Medieval Times. In this project children will learn about significant aspects of Welsh history including the Welsh Princes of the time and the four provinces of Gwynedd, Powys, Deheubarth and Morgannwg. The project will explore the Princes’ lifestyles, their homes and castles and their role in society. At the heart of this project children read, write and re-tell myths and legends and create their own stories in the same style. Children will learn additional skills in presenting and recounting historical information.
In support of Welsh Government and local legislation we are continuing to actively promote Llancarfan as a healthy school. Could we ask for your continued support in providing your child/ren with a daily healthy snack for break time, snacks can include all fruits, vegetables and cereal bars BUT please can we ask that children DO NOT bring nuts to school.
Could you please ensure that all snacks are clearly labelled to avoid confusion.
Just a few housekeeping pointers:-
All the children will be bringing home “Learning Logs” these are open ended research activities for the children to complete over the following week Monday to Monday. Activities will be Literacy and topic based to further consolidate learning that is taking place in class. Additional, differentiated Maths activities will be sent home when appropriate to support your child’s learning.
The children have spelling groups and spelling books. They will be bringing their books home on a Monday and subsequently tested the following Monday. Supporting home work sheets will be sent home to be completed and returned to school every Monday.
We have PE on a Tuesday afternoon this term having a Games focus, please could you ensure children bring their kit to school (they can leave it on their pegs)
Could we ask that children bring their reading books to school daily. The children take part in guided reading activities, peer reading and individual reading. Regular reading practise is essential for every child’s progress and we very much appreciate your support in this. Please sign or comment as to their progress at home so that books can be changed regularly
Practice makes progress.
